October 11, 1999 - LETARC COMMUNICATIONS CENTER

The Longview/East Texas Amateur Radio Club is proud to announce the completion of the LETARC COMMUNICATIONS CENTER located within the American Red Cross facility on HWY. 31 in Longview.

The purpose of the Center is to establish a club station that is equipped with all necessary avenues of amateur equipment necessary to assist with local and area emergency communications in times of disaster. The club station, under the call KI5UA (in memory of the late silent key Bill Rigsby), will also serve as a station for all LETARC members to have access to equipment for training and yearly events such as Field Day.

The recent addition of LETARC into the City of Longview Emergency Management Plan, and the establishment of the LETARC COMMUNICATIONS CENTER verifies the tradition of amateur radio emergency service is alive and well in East Texas.

LETARC E-MAIL CALL SIGN ADDRESSES
Members who have valid e-mail addresses may now obtain a LETARC callsign e-mail address (ex: n0ki@letarc.net). This is an e-mail alias forwarding address and can not forward to another e-mail alias. In other words, I can not forward n0ki@letarc.net to n0ki@arrl.net as this could lead to a "feedback loop" which can bring a server down. This works just like the ARRL program except you only need to be a LETARC member. E-mail your request to the webmaster with a cc: to the club secretary for verification of membership.
